I recently employed a PR Consultant to help me market my books. The direction he took was to target both myself and my partner Joyce Johnson who writes under the name of Aldrea Johnson as a couple who have shared interests in writing. When we met we learned that we shared interests not only in writing but in other subjects as well, we both love comic books and movies and reading among other things. This shared commonality has helped us through our relationship and between us we have written over fifteen books.
Keith Newman of HighlightsPR has worked miracles in getting the word out about us, he managed to get a press release into our local newspaper and on Saturday 24th November we were interviewed on BBC Radio Stoke, our local radio station. The interview was live on air and before we went on air I have to say my stomach had a few butterflies floating around in there but as soon as we entered the broadcast booth all the nerves disappeared. The presenters, Stuart Ellis and Jodie Looker were extremely pleasant and put us both at ease as soon as we entered and it was like chatting to old friends.
Along with HighlightsPR I have had Margaret Daly of Rukia Publishing to help broaden my reach and increase sales. Together the two of them have raised both our profiles on social media and my sales, through the various marketing promotions Margaret has run have increased to never before seen levels. Is this the start of something more? I can only hope so. A successful career in writing is rarely achieved overnight, it is very much a marathon rather than a sprint so I have come off the starting line and will continue until I reach that dreamt of, finishing line.
