Some time last week I received a message from Margaret Daly of Rukia Publishing who is marketing some of my work, which said check out this link, they do author interviews. I dutifully checked this out and is was for Blog Talk Radio which has 15 million listeners. I filled out the short form to request the interview and thought nothing more of it. I thought that having those many listeners they would be inundated with requests to be interviewed and wouldn’t be interested in someone from the UK.
In the request form they asked which day I would like to be interviewed so I picked Friday because that’s my day off, the day I usually set aside to catch up with writing and other stuff I can’t fit in during the working week. Thursday I get home, check my emails to find a reply from them which said that I was to call the station at 7.20 am PST for the interview.
I was both excited and terrified at the same time. This was an opportunity of a lifetime in which I get to talk live on the radio about my writing to 15 million listeners.
So the time comes for me to call the station, 2.20 pm GMT, and after a few hiccups I get through. At this point I’m still thinking it’ll be just a short five minute chat about Annihilation, book ten in my Col Sec series, ten minutes max, then cut to commercial and thank you very much blah blah and so on. Over half an hour later and we’re still chatting like old friends. It was amazing, the hosts, Brian The Hammer Jackson and Ellen Johnson were consummate professionals putting me at ease the moment the interview began. If not for margaret Daly giving me a few pointers beforehand I would have been completely unprepared for this but as it turned it i was told it went really well, to be honest it went so fast I can’t remember much about it, I just know I talked about my writing, the series, my inspirations and we laughed, a lot. It was great fun.
Now, my entire paperback collection in the series is available on their store, here’s the link if you want to check it out.
