Disinformation and will we ever survive all the lies?

Disinformation can be classified in many ways, propaganda, misleading information or just plain lies but more and more we see it invading our every day lives.

This is nothing new, politicians and military leaders have used this tactic to give enemies false information since time began. We saw it take center stage recently with the election in 2020 in the US. Fox news and the Trump administration used it to fuel unrest in the voting public perpetuating a lie that the election was stolen and that the pandemic wasn’t as bad as everyone thought. This led to many thousands of people dying because of the Covid virus and when the election results were finally in and the losing side was not happy with the result it led to an assault on the Capitol Building resulting in many deaths.

The internet has made it so much easier for this sort of misinformation to be spread and there will always be people willing to ignore facts in favour of fiction because either they are too ignorant to see through the lies or that it ties into the narrative they would rather believe. Even now there are some who believe that Trump did not lose the election and there are also many people who are still continuing this blatant lie. Such is the power of disinformation. Some people are more willing to believe some outlandish theory rather than the simple truth.

How are we to combat this, can we combat this and more importantly can society survive this increase in fiction over fact.
