Writing nowadays is just like anything else in the world. If you want to become noticed you have to regard yourself as a manufacturer of product, that product being whatever you write, whether its a short story, a novella or a full blown book. It is a product and to get that product into the hands of your customers, ie readers, is to develop a brand.
Brands such as Nike, Adidas, Apple, Samsung and so on are known around the world. You see their name and you know what you’ll be getting. It’s exactly the same for writers, you see the name Stephen King or James Patterson and you know exactly what you’ll be getting because their name is their brand.
My publisher, Red Penguin Books has been helping me to build my given name, Jan Domagala by publishing some new work, the Duncan Pryde series, a spyfi series set in the future and is my homage to James Bond. They are also republishing my older Col Sec series hoping to bring the new editions to a new readership. While this has been happening I have neglected my other work under the pen name of Jack Dillon and this work I am particularly proud of. I have two series under this name, the ATLAS Force series and the Jack Cross(SI6) series, both of which without any promotion has been selling through digital media from Draft2Digital. Now I think it’s time I invested more attention to these pieces of work.
The Brand of Jack Dillon which stands for action adventure with an espionage and sci fi twist is about to receive more work from me. I am working on another book in one of the series, I don’t want to jinx it by saying the name because it’s going so well at the moment and I have ideas for the other series as well.
My commitment to Red Penguin Books is being fullfilled, the third Duncan Pryde book is almost written which completes the contract for that series and the other Col Sec series books were written already so unless they want more books in the Duncan Pryde series I can leave that project for the time being and devote more time to the Jack Dillon work.
I must admit to being quite excited by this new work which is something I’m not prone to say because as most writers at some point in their career I am plagued by doubt of the validity of the work, is it good enough is a question that runs through my mind on a daily basis and being prone to anxiety as I am, this doesn’t help. Never the less I will be continuing and looking forward to the day when I can share this new work with you all and I thank you for your patience.
