I think I’ve always wanted to write, ever since I was a small child I would lose myself in a book or comic which inspired me to do something of my own. I first began with making my own super hero comics but the time it took to do all the artwork meant that other ideas came bursting through and I never finished anything. I was always moving on to the next story, so I started to write.
The stories flowed and I could get them down a lot faster by concentrating on the written form rather than transfering them into drawn images. These first attempts were ludicrously rudimentary but the process was so much fun I had a blast and it taught me a few things as well.
Years later when I took writing seriously, I self published my first book which was what later after several rewrites and edits became the first book in the Jack Cross SI6 series and I chose the name Jack Dillon as the author. Before that I had begun writing under my own name a series of high adventure sci fi books called the Col Sec series with Kurt Stryder as the protagonist. This series is now being republished by Red Penguin Books through their Global Edit imprint. The Jack Dillon books remain self published.
I expanded the Dillon catalogue with five more books, two more featuring Jack Cross and another three in a separate series called the ATLAS Force series which had Colonel Jack Flynn as the protagonist. All this time I was also writing the Col Sec series which grew to ten titles with a spin off featuring Captain Jon Savage.
Considering that I have a publisher for the Sol Sec series the Dillon catalogue is selling just as well, if not slightly better, sales figures are difficult to ascertain when you’re not an expert in marketing like me, so I have to rely on what my publisher tells me and the information I get from various online book stores.
I chose to write the thriller books under a different name to separate from the sci fi material and thought that Jack Dillon was a great name for a thriller writer. It seems like it was a good choice and I feel that this name could be a good brand to expand.
Experience has taught me many things and one of them is to pick a name that is easily recognisable for your brand. It seems that Jack Dillon could be that name.
