In the first book of my new Captain Savage series I pose the question of what would happen if you found out that evolution on our home planet had a helping hand and not from the divine presence some of us have come to accept but by another species, more advanced than we could ever imagine.
This is a trope used in many sci fi novels or movies and I use it in this new series as an ongoing thread. Early on in the book once most of the characters have been introduced, they discover something so shattering that it knocks them off their game. Knowledge gained from the planet Tartaran in several books in the Col Sec series sends the OSI, Offworld Special Intelligence unit, a special tactical unit deployed by President Takagi himself off to investigate the meaning behind what they learned. Creatures indigenous to Tartaran had been genetically modified centuries before the Col Sec teams arrival and once they gained access to the computers that miraculously were still functional, they learned this and more. Those responsible for the experimentation had arrived from another planet deep in the galaxy and were forced to leave when the experiments failed and the creatures over ran the city they had built.
They had questions as to who and why and where had they come from and where did they go, or were they all slaughtered. Finding no evidence that a massacre had occurred they had to assume an evacuation had taken place on a planetary scale.
These are some of the questions the OSI must find answers to. General Sinclair and his team including Captain Jon Savage learn through further evidence on an Independent World that the same species who visited Tartaran had also visited this world and had left behind another experiment there too. Who are these people? Where did they come from? What is their purpose, was it to seed the galaxy with various species or did they view the galaxy as their personal laboratory and everything they left behind were failed experiments? If that was the case what were they trying to achieve?
As Captain Savage strives to find answers he comes up against threats from all sides. There is a creature they must find who he already had encountered tragically that had altered his destiny irrevocably already and also a determined group who also want the creature but for another purpose, to weaponise it. As he deals with the loss of everything he held dear to him Captain Savage looks for answers to possibly mankind’s two most burning questions, where do we come from and are we alone. The latter has already impacted his life before he realised and the other may change everything he knows or thought he knew about the history of humankind.
